Villa Galileo
The villa in Arcetri is the house where Galileo lived during the
last years of his life. He rented the villa in 1631 and returned in 1633 after his trial. He died here on 8 January, 1642. The villa is near the convent where
Galileo’s daughter lived. The house is not currently open
to the public. It is about an hour’s walk from the Central
Train Station.
The villa is arranged around a central courtyard. The two story wall at the far left of the photo lies along one side of the courtyard. The second story shown here opens to a balcony overlooking the courtyard. An exterior view, showing the balcony from the street, can be found at Galileo Photos
