Dante Allighieri
1265-1321

Dante was a poet whose words are still speaking to readers today. His most famous work is perhaps “ The Divine Comedy”. The second link below shows a (1450) painting of Dante by Andrea del Castagno, part of a series of Famous Men and Women. Two other Tuscan poets found in the Portico, Boccaccio and Petrarch, are also represented in the series. All of the paintings are in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
