Leon Battista Alberti

            Alberti was a mathematician and architect. His statue joins those 
              of other, perhaps better know people, in the Portico because of 
              his influential writing on the arts and his work as an architect. 
              He is the architect who designed the upper part of the facade of 
              Santa Maria Novella.
