The picture shows the west side of the support for the quadrant.The inscription on the support is a dedication to Grand Duke Cosimo I. The inscription is
COSM. MED. MAGN. ETR. DUX NOBILIUM ARTIUM STU=DIOSUS ASTRONOMIAE STUDIOSIS DEDIT ANNO D. MDLXXII
"Cosimo de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, studious of noble arts, gave (this instrument) to (men) studious of astronomy in 1572 A.D."
