The picture shows the west side of the support for the quadrant.The inscription on the support is a dedication to Grand Duke Cosimo I. The inscription is

COSM. MED. MAGN. ETR. DUX NOBILIUM ARTIUM STU=DIOSUS ASTRONOMIAE STUDIOSIS DEDIT ANNO D. MDLXXII

"Cosimo de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, studious of noble arts, gave (this instrument) to (men) studious of astronomy in 1572 A.D."

Danti also engraved several sundials on the support, the quadrant and the church facade, some of which are visible in the picture.
