F. Guicciardini
1483-1540

Francesco Guicciardini, like Niccolo Machiavelli, was an historian and writer. The two were very close friends. Guicciardini’s book on the History of Italy was written to promote a pragmatic reflection on the political structures of his time. He, as so many others of his time, worked for the Medici and the Papacy.
