Santa Croce
Detail #10

View of the ceiling of the Pazzi Chapel in Santa Croce. The chapel was designed by Brunelleschi in about 1420. The rondels are by Luca della Robbia. The two shown in color in the upper part of the photo are from a set depicting Sts. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the four Evangelists. The symbols of the evangelists are Matthew (angel), Mark(lion), Luke(ox) and John (eagle). The two shown are John on the left and Luke on the right. The Pazzi coat of arms is under each rondel. The other blue and white bas reliefs are also by della Robbia.
