In 30 B.C., Augustus conquered Egypt and brought many obelisks from Heliopolis to Rome. The obelisk shown in this picture is dedicated to Rameses II and was moved to the Boboli gardens from Rome. A copy of this original is in the gardens of the Medici villa in Rome.

The large tub in front of the obelisk is from the Baths of Caracalla.
