Leon Battista Alberti was commisioned by Giovanni Rucellai to design the upper part of the facade shown in this detail. A statue of Alberti stands in the Portico degli Uffizi. (See Detail 2 at Site 5). The inscription is

IOHAN(N)ES ORICELLARIUS PAU(LI) F(ILIUS) AN(NO) SAL(UTIS) MCCCCLXX
